the one where i wish you a "Happy Canada Day!".
so, i've got these goals set for myself and i'm on my way to achieving them, which is a huge step for me. i'm one of those idea people. i have lots of ideas; very few of them materialize. one goal i set for myself is in one year to be able to jog 5k. my walks are usually between 6.5 to 7k, 5 is less than that which means that i will jog for about 1/2 hr which at this point is looooooooong way off. i could probably jog (slowly and small strides) for about a minute max. like i said, a long way off. but i've got these fantastic tools to keep track of my progress and give some helpful hints for new runners and running for weight loss and endurance:
MapMyRun.com
This is a fantastic site to keep track of your route by calculating the distance, how hard it was, the time it took you to walk it (thus calculating how fast you were going), your sitting heart rate vs. heart rate at the end of the walk/run. Entering your activity also notifies the various challenges you are signed up for (ie: 50K in a month, weight loss, distance/time goals, etc). lots of forums and tips to keep you going and motivated.
Cool Running - From the couch to 5k
A great site for someone like me who is by no means a runner. this site breaks down a schedule weekly and then daily for what your workouts should be and what intervals to follow. again - lots of tips and forums to discuss your progress and problems that come up.
